Odense counts on welfare technology print
6/10/2010 2:45:05 PM

New welfare technology can improve the everyday life of the citizens considerably. In Odense, they are aware of that fact, and that’s why the wish for more welfare technology takes up space on the city’s wish list.

The Department of the Elderly and Disabled applies for funding to two projects which relate to two products from Medisat: The Carephone and the Patient Briefcase.

The Carephone gives the elderly and the disabled a chance to live at home for a longer period and receive the help they need in surroundings they know instead of in a nursing home. By pressing an alert button on the Carephone the citizen will get in immediate and direct contact with the home care staff. The Carephone are tentatively replacing the short visits (10 minutes or shorter) that the domiciliary pay the citizens when they need to check whether the citizen takes his medicine or drinks enough water.

The Patient Briefcase makes it possible for the patient to be hospitalized in his own home. The patient can via the briefcase see and talk to a doctor or nurse, who is situated in the hospital. Together, they can take different measurements that the patient otherwise had to go to the hospital to take.

The two projects have already been pre-qualified and hence described as qualified for the funding. Now the only thing left is waiting to obtain certainty regarding whether the projects are going to be prioritized when the funds are distributed.
